Third trimester symptoms and feeling massively pregnant.

31 weeks pregnant and my belly has popped way out there. A few people have even asked “Where did that come from?”. My maternity clothes are starting to feel snug too. Wonder if they’ll still fit in another 6 weeks? I’ll probably be waddling around in nothing but muumuus by then. Otherwise there’s a small tent in the garage that might do the trick!

My burgeoning belly has brought on some very unwelcome symptoms. Sleeping is becoming more and more difficult  as my hips ache during the night and I’m currently being woken by painful headaches. I’ve been using a full pregnancy body pillow, but it doesn’t seem to be keeping me as comfortable as before. Not to mention the other night I had quite the rude awakening – my first leg cramp. I woke Hubby with a fright as I screamed out in pain for help. I growled at him to “Grab hold of my leg and stretch my calve out!”. Dazed and confused he did so at an annoyingly delayed pace, but eventually managed to make it stop. I’ve read leg cramps are more common in the third trimester, I just hope I don’t suffer another – it hurt like a mofo!

Then there’s when I wake up in the morning. My nose is very congested, my bladder feels like it’s going to explode (even though I’ve already been to the toilet twice during the night) and I generally just feel like I’ve been hit by a truck. The rest of the day I spend alternating between back aches, hip aches and groin aches. Oh, there’s also the fact that (probably due to the lack of sleep and huge baby belly throwing me out of whack) everything in my path seems to be a difficult to dodge obstacle. I’m all trips and bumps right now. Clumsiness to the max!

Also, and as if the normal itchy stretching skin on my bursting belly wasn’t enough, I have now developed a few Prurigo spots around my belly button. Prurigo in pregnancy is described as being a very itchy pimple like rash, happens in around 1 out of 300 pregnancies and usually around the 2nd or 3rd trimester. To me they feel like very itchy mosquito bites. I don’t think the hot weather helps, but I’m trying my hardest not to itch them. Luckily I only have a few spots and find a couple dabs of calamine lotion helps.

Wow, looking back on what I wrote makes me look like a right Munchausen! It’s just with my first pregnancy I experienced minimal symptoms. This time, I’m getting the whole shebang! I mean I was MUCH younger when I was pregnant with my son. Perhaps now being in my mid-thirties has a lot to do with it – I’m getting too old for this sh*t……..
